Shree Zalawad Sarvakalyan Sarvjanik Trust - History

  • The task of writing the history of our society was entrusted to Professor Dr. Mugatlal P. Bavisi, who is a leading historian of Gujarat. He has written the history of the Limbdi State and obtained a Ph.D. degree. Twenty of his books related to history have been published.
  • Murti Pujak refers to the worshippers of idols. After the establishment of the Sthanakvasi sect among the Jains, two divisions emerged in Gujarat: Murti Pujak (Deravasi) and Sthanakvasi. Thus, those originally from Zalawad, who are Murti Pujak (Deravasi) and residing in Ahmedabad, can become members of the society.
  • The term ‘Zalawad’ in our institution’s name is worth understanding. The area currently known as Surendranagar district was known as ‘Zalawad district’ before 1960. Before independence, this district included small and large princely states such as Dhrangadhra, Limbdi, Wadhwan, Sayla, and Chuda. The kings of the Zala dynasty ruled these states. Due to the rule of the Zala dynasty, this area was known as ‘Zalawad.’
